Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Penalty for possessing valid out of state drivers license in 1975

I was a young foolish teenager in 1975 who moved to California. I obtained a CA drivers license without surrendering my out of state license. (I had no outstanding tickets in the other state at the time; just young, irresponsible, and flaky.) The out of state license expired in 1979 and I have maintained a CA residence and valid CA license since then. But now, on my CA drivers license renewal, there is a question asking if I ever had a license from another state. If I answer yes and the DMV learns I didn't surrender my other license, can I be prosecuted or fined? How likely is this since it was 30 years ago?

The odds are overwhelming that 1) They would never find out and 2) You could not be prosecuted for something that happened that long ago and that most people would have forgotten about by now.
