Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

What can a person file in a criminal case not to have the same judge who clearly stated his personal beliefs to attorneys on record (not in front of jurors)

I guess my first question is how do you know you will get the same judge? Because of rotations and assignments you may not know... However there are recusal provisions in CCP 170.6 but there are specifc timeframes that must be followed and inormation must be known...
