Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

if this is person is able to be sued

my friend1 has a friend2 who was stealing from a shop.

friend1 told me the whole story about how friend2 was on trial. my friend1 told me not to tell anyone but i told my other friend3. then it turns out that it wasnt really friend2 who was stealing but it was really her sister. and then when friend1 found out that i told another person, she got mad and said how she could get sued. she said she could get sued because friend2's sister was innocent until proven guilty. is it really possible that my friend1 can get sued just for telling someone else?

No. This is because you stated it "on information and belief." You believed it was true. That it turned out false is not your fault. A bit of advice: Get some new friends. Good Luck.
