11377(a) is a "wobbler" - meaning it can be charged as either a felony or a misdemeanor. As a felony, it carries up to 3 years in state prison. As a misdemeanor, up to a year in county jail.
What a person might actually get depends on the facts, their record and whether or not they're eligible for a drug program instead of a straight conviction.
It could be anything from no time and a program to state prison. Sorry to be vague, but without knowing more, there's no way to tell.
