Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

personal identity

Hello, I know this sounds weird but about a year ago I met a man and began dating him. He said his name was (John Doe) ok fine. But his drivers license/credit cards say(Sam Smith) John Doe owns property (the address where he lives) in California and Nevada, Sam Smith is the president of a corperation in Nevada, where John Doe works. John Doe pays cash for everything. Isn't illegal to go by 2 identities? Thank you

Re: personal identity

I can think of both innocent and non-innocent explanations. Maybe he owes impossible amounts of child support or taxes. After a year of dating him you'd think he'd level with you. Unfortunately, the non-innocent explanations seem more likely.
