Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Petition denied, who to talk to?

I received back my petition for expungement (1203.4a) with a denial today and I want to find out why it was denied. Who can I talk to about this? I'm amost positive that I met all the criteria but I still got a denial with no explanation on my papers (I mailed the petition) Can the court clerk explain the denial, or will I need to arrange a meeting with the judge somehow? I'm trying to avoid using a lawyer.

Thanks

Re: Petition denied, who to talk to?

Does the denial state a reason? If you completed your probation the court has no discretion to deny you. I would file a Notice of Appeal with the court clerk within 30 days (or as soon as you can). You have nothing to lose. I know of cases where the ruling was overturned on appeal, and I know of other cases where the court changed its mind after the notice of appeal was filed.
