Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Can police notify your employer of your arrest

My niece and a friend were arrested for possession of controlled substance for sale. It belonged to the friend but they both pled no contest at arraignment to get 30 day sentence instead of possibility of 6 mos. if taken to court. The arresting police officer went to school where my niece works as playground supervisor and told them. She was let go. Is this legal for the cop to do?

Re: Can police notify your employer of your arrest

Good heavens. What on earth prompted Your Niece to plead guilty -at the arraignment-? Did she speak to a lawyer first? I would expect that no lawyer, not even the public defender, would ever advise somebody to plead guilty at the arraignment. Especially to something the defendant claims she did not do. Your Niece had better retain a lawyer to attempt to withdraw the guilty plea if she ever wants to be employed again.
