Re: police vs security guard?

Running away from a security guard by itself is not a crime because a guard is not a peace/police officer with whose orders you must comply. However, if the guard catches you or later you get identified as a person who was running away, this would constitute strong evidence of your guilt of whatever it is that you might be accused of. Not to mention that you might open yourself to retaliation and get yourself beaten up.

Police should identify themselves but they are not really obligated to.
