pressing charges

can i press charges against someone that stold my car 10 days ago even if i did not want to press charges the day i made the police report

As you can see different attorneys approach the same case from different angles. You cannot press charges against the person. Your desire not to proceed with the case may result in the police not pursuing the case. You can contact the appropriate law enforcement agency, or the district attorney and report the circumstances of the taking of the car. You could request that a criminal action be filed. The decision as to whether to proceed with prosecution will ultimatly be made by the district attorney.

A major question that will have to be answered is why you changed you mind about prosecuting the case. If you had a falling out with the accused person, it is less likely that the decision will be to prosecute. Any hint of revenge on your part will weaken the case.
