Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

When considering "priors", is it difficult to research and discover past offenses from different counties since these informational systems do not appear to be bridged?

L.A. Superior Court's website seems least informative...I'm surprised they don't charge you just to glance at their site. San Bernardino and Riverside seem a bit more user friendly when searching public criminal records, but San Diego gives only a skeleton of information within a search.

I don't quite trust all the detective software online, either, and I've been ripped off by P.I.s.

What's the easiest and most economical way to thoroughly background someone and "get the dirt" using online public records overlapping various counties?
