Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Prisoners' requirements for work furlough

If a person is serving a 2-year sentence in a state prison, 1-year with half, and they are considered non-violent, minimum security level, when would they be eligible to apply for work furlough, and what are the requirements for approval?

Thank you.

Re: Prisoners' requirements for work furlough

I'm not aware of a work furlough program in California Prisons. There are parole programs and the prisoner can learn everything they need to know as soon as they arrive at the prison they are sent to. You are almost correct about the 50% program in the prisons. The prisoners get 3 days credit for every 2 days served (or part thereof) in the county jail. Then after the chain goes out they get 2 days credit for ever day they serve in prison. But only after they get processed and are assigned to a job. Until then they do a day for a day's credit. Hopefully someone else answering this question knows more about work furlough programs. The problem is that very few criminal law attorneys have any experience dealing with prisoners' rights, or the rules governing their detention.

Lots of luck.
