Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

what is the procedure in california, for making a county court clerks office update all past history and close all old cases? They have had status of : off calendar, vacated, open, probation terminated, removed from courts control, jail, held to answer-- even after trial and plea bargains have been done. It's not legal to keep them opened forever right?

Courts do destroy files for old cases. The clerk has a register of each file that is opened. That list lasts forever. It starts with the first case filed and continues to grow as new cases are opened. This list of cases is open to the public.
