Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

professional Fitnes Question

I have to mail out an application to the state of CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) in order to obtain a Substitute Teaching Permit. This application is for credential authorizing public school service. The application contains professional fitness questions. I have an expunged misdemeanor in CA. Should I disclose that I have a misdemeanor even though it has been expunged? I plead no contest for the misdemeanor. Will disclosing this information ruin my chances for getting called in for subbing jobs? Or if I disclose this information to the CTC to obtain a permit, will I be flagged with a misdemeanor conviction for potential employers to see?

Re: professional Fitnes Question

So-called "expungement" doesn't count as far as job appications for public entities are concerned. You have to tell 'em.
