Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Public defender and police report

I have been charged with misdemeanor hit and run. I have a Public defender whom keeps continuing pre-trial. I asked for a copy of police report 2 weeks ago and after several calls was told he does not have the time to redact and release to me. I want the police report to perhaps sit down with an atty for a free no b.s. evaluation of getting this dismissed timely. (I was falsely arrested in April). I am entirely innocent of the charges.

Re: Public defender and police report

Thank you for your posting.

As you suggested, any attorney has to redact a report, by law, before it is released to you. As many have pointed out at this site, the average public defender, while good attorneys, typically do not have the time to handle your case with as much diligence as private counsel. You should seriously think about retaining private counsel, in my humble opinion.
