What reasons are there for a misdemeanor domestic violence charge getting bumped up to a felony right before a court appearance? A friend showed up to his court date and was told to go to a different division because his charge was changed

Who knows? But if this was an arraignment, the police officer may have originally set it as a misdemeanor and when the DA reviewed the case he/she thought it should be a felony.
