Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

I was recently caught for changing a price tag on merchandise at Nordstrom. The item was 16 I changed it to a 5 dollar price tag. Paid for it. Security took me to the back. I admitted I was wrong. They said police will not be notified. I signed the paper stating that. And a paper sayin I'm banned from Nordstrom affiliated stores for two years. Also another form. 3 in total. They took down my phone, drivers license, and picture. What are my options and next steps? Will this affect my future?

At this point you are lucky the police were not called. Do not pay any civil demand letter you might receive from Nordstroms. They would ave to sue you to collect- which is highly doubtful. Do not go into any Nordstroms.

As Mr. Roberts, said, it sounds very lucky. The same advice - do nothing, pay nothing, shop nothing at Nordstroms. The D.A.'s office could contact you ...but it seems a lot less likely if there was no police present. Your information may be put into a database of shoplifters, though. If you pay cash for other (non-Nordstrom) shopping, your identity is not known. Good luck!
