Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
I was recently caught shoplifting at the jcpenny in salinas ca. I got put into a small room untill the police came to question me and issue a ticket to appear in court. My court date is this week and was wondering what will happen in court. Will I go to jail? Will I have a huge fine? Will I get a misdormenor? I'm sure its called Petty Theif but can they drop it to an infraction since property was less than $50. Need answers please

My advice is get an attorney and show up... If you cant afford an attorney, show up- dont admit to anything, and see if you qualify for Public Defender.... Bottom line is dont do this alone as charges and convictions can follow you for a long time if not resolved properly.
I agree with Mr. Green, but additionally you should not be talking about the details of the offense or making admissions on line. Details regarding the offense should only be discussed with your attorney. Conversations with your attorney are confidential and cannot be used against you.
