Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Recently I was given a misdemeanor for "brandishing a replica firearm".
I was a passenger in a car with 5 others, on the way back from the north coast, (my band was touring...)
It was late at night and I was playing around with a toy pirate gun, as well as an eye patch, and a plastic hook. I bought this little toy kit for a $1.50... long car rides get boring at it provided minor entertainment for a few minutes.
I was sitting in the middle back seat in a six-seater suburban, The windows were all half-way down. I was childishly "shooting" the toy gun in all different directions.
About an hour later, we were pulled over, individually searched, and I was given this ticket.
I have a court date set for the 24th of this month, in Shasta County, I live 4 hours south of there. Unfortunately, I already have non-refundable plane tickets to New York City, I will be there for couple weeks.
Is there any way for an appointed attorney or public defender to go there in my place? I can't afford one myself.
I'm working on moving the court date earlier... but the office says they don't have my case on file yet, and probably wont until two days prior to my case, which will be too late. I leave on the 16th of this month, and wont be back until the 31st.
I need to move my case, get pardoned, or have someone else go in my place...
help please! I'm just a kid who made a stupid mistake!
