Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Recently my son thought he found the perfect girlfriend. She sent nude pictures of herself to him. While they were together at a park a police officer arrived and took his cell phone out of his hand and found the pictures. This girl was age 17 .....my son is 24. He plea bargained and got 3 years probation and has to register as a sex offender... they said no time and now is told he will have to do 160 days in the county jail. Is there help for this? He has no money ! Is now homeless and his life is ruined

Did he have a public defender? His life is not ruined, but he will have to explain this conviction for each job he applies to.
Was he under suspicion of another alleged crime? I want to find out why a police officer would arrive at the park and take the cell phone out of his hand. In other words, did the police have any reason to suspect your son of a crime? Also, did your son break the terms of his probation agreement? I need more information because something doesn't add up.
Also, his life is not ruined. I am hoping your son was at least given a public defender in court. If he his homeless and can't afford an attorney, one would have been appointed to him by the court since this is a serious offense that involves jail-time as well as the surrender of other freedoms. Or, did your son plea no contest?
