The first rule is to protect himself, but it depends on the situation and the charges. If all three defendants have a common defense, then working together, rather than against each other may be in their best interest.

Each defendant needs their own attorney, as each may have unique defenses and different legal positions that make it impossible for one attorney to represent more than one defendant.

Any attorney who represents your son, has the ethical obligation to zealously defend their client, in this case, your son. If your son has defenses the other defendants do not have, he will have to distance himself from the other defendents. Your son is an adult, and however this case resolves, it will be on your son's record, THE REST OF HIS LIFE...Your son should speak to a qualified criminal defense attorney in or near his area and speak about all the facts and the attorney should be able to tell him what he/she feels is the best approach for your son. Many attorneys, such as myself, give FREE consultations, so you have nothing to lose and everything to gain, by speaking to an attorney....AS SOON AS POSSIBLE....I wish you the best......David Wallin
