Records in California ''erased'' after 7 years?

I'm currently doing research and need some expertise. I've read that in California, misdemeanor convictions that are more than 7 years old do not show up when conducting a criminal background check. Is this true? Do records get erased after 7 years because of the lack of room to keep them in the databases that are open to the public?

What you are hearing is incorrect. Whoever has discussed this matter with you is dealing only with a DUI conviction which will continue to follow a person for 7 years for punishment purposes. The actual DUI/or any other misdemeanor will remain on your record potentially forever.
