what recourse does a defendent have after pleading guilty and receiving a long sentence from a judge who should have recused himself because he knew victim and family.

you could seek a coram nobis if you didn't know. If the attorney did not raise the issue to diqualify then you could seek an appeal or write based upon ineffective assistance of counsel. There are various options available to you.
