Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Refund from Bail bondsman?

My boyfriend required a bail bond of 50,000, bondsman requested $2000. down payments for $3000. No titles of property were given or signed to him. 5 minutes later botfriend requeted him to cancel/quit, because they were releasing him, bondsman hurriedly slide papers into officer and then said cant now. The case was dropped and the bondsmen still wants his money. What is the best way to proceed with this? Pay him? sue him? Please help. I can not find any ifo on this. A trail lawyer friend said we are not liable to pay him the rest and he should take half and return the rest. Any type of help would be great. Thank you

Re: Refund from Bail bondsman?

I have read the reply from Victor Hobbs and agree with him. I suggest you file in small claims court and file a complaint as he suggested.

Bail bondsman are licensed by the State. So start with a complaint to the licensing authority. Then sue for the return of the $2,000.00. You may want to pick up any information that you can get your hands on show the court, D. A., and/or jail records to show the times involved. This will build you a stronger case in small claims court.
