refund from lawyer

I went to court on appointed date, my lawyer did not show up and was unreachable by me and the court. I had to hire new lawyer, because judge gave me a choice or try to get in touch with original lawyer. The original lawyer left a message on my ans machine saying he had dates mixed up and that he had a new phone number. The new phone number did not work. How do I get my money back?

Call the State Bar. Bar actions usually motivate an attorney to promptly refund unearned fees.

Ask your old lawyer for a refund. If he is not responsive contact the State Bar which has procedures in place to resolve fee disputes through arbitration without cost to you.
