Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
renting an apartment
Over a year ago I was caught shoplifting in New Jersey and was convicted with a township offense. I plan on moving into an apartment in California a couple months before I can have it expunged, and I want to know if it's likely that I my application will be denied because of my background?

I disagree with Ms. Hessen. I can't see how the landlord will ever find out about it. While I still suggest you go forward with the expungement when its time, I don't see this giving you a problem.
