Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

reporting an old crime

Can I be charged for letting the air out of my former boyfriends vehicle tires if I did it 4 years ago? He's trying to blackmail me to avoid paying me back the $25K he owes me and will dig up anything from our past to retaliate if I see a lawyer to try to recoup this $$. There is a promissory note, but it stipulates he'll pay me back upon the death of his mother. He's a tattle tale and called the police a few times when I wouldn't leave his house-- told them I''m bipolar and has threatened to call my job and have my child taken away from me. He is a bully and I'm scared of him. He recently left a haunting message asking me to disappear and that he has refrained from harming me for a very long time, and that if I try to collect now, I will not come out of this in a good way-- meaning either he'll counter sue because according to him I caused him to be an alcoholic AND caused all of his medical issues, OR he'll bring up the tires and other stuff. I have many crazy voicemails saved from him.

So will that tire thing come back to haunt me? What about having had marijuana in my possession 4 years ago? (I also have pics of his 19 yr old daughter smoking on FACEBOOK that he knows about and saw). He likes to intimidate me...

Re: reporting an old crime

Letting the air out of tires is probably a misdemeanor and has a 1 year statute of limitations. Also his threats amount to extortion which is a felony. Just tell him to pay up now. If the threatens to report you to the police tell to do so if he wants, but he has to pay you.
