Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Rights of hotel patrons.
I stayed at a hotel 3 weeks in the desert area. My friend was working there and said since I needed to be around this area and was broke that he could accomodate me and set everything up for me to stay free in a cheaper room. I left town with one more night at the hotel left and when I came back into town to have my last night the GM told me that the credit card used was stolen. I knew nothing and my friend played dumb saying I gave him the card number. I never showed any ID, signed anything checking in, showed a credit card of any type, and was under the assumption he would comp it when he said he would hook me up. The hotel has 4 pieces of my valuablee luggage and belongings. Are they allowed to hold it until I pay 2,500.00 or no.? do I have any rights?

Re: Rights of hotel patrons.
The hotel is not allowed to hold your belongings, but your only recourse is to sue the hotel. If the hotel loses or destroys your belongings it will be liable. Must be some nice hotel if three days amounts to $2,500.00. Good Luck.
