Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
One of my roommates who is known to be controlling and a hothead, accused me of making a pass at his then girlfriend because he saw us talking one day. I denied it but he told me his aunt who I have never met told him an "American boy" was spreading rumors that he was cheating on his girlfriend. I am the only so-called "American boy" in the house so he figured it was me and punched me. Days later, after I had filed a report, I moved out of the house, escorted by police and found that he had wiped out everything on my computer hard drive that included important and valuable information.
About a month later, he sent me a text message saying that he heard I was "running my mouth again" and "someone's going to pay". I have not done anything to him nor have I flirted with his then girlfriend. I ignored it but last night, I was at a going-away party for a friend headed to the Army when he started to gloat in front of his friends and new girlfriend that he had "kicked my a**" and he would do it again.
What can I do about this? We attend the same university and I don't want to run into him on campus. He has even has our other roommate against me. He wants a fight out of me but I do not want to resort to violence. This is very immature of him and I think he needs to seek help. I am not the type of person to gossip and spread rumors about people, so legally, is there anything else I can do besides filing a report to stop this?

You should obtain a restraining order against him. There should be an office at the couty court building that will help you with this free of charge.
