Re: sealing records
In California, juvenile records are strictly limited in their use for subsequent cases when the person is an adult. However, this is not true for federal cases. Federal cases can and do use juvenile records. Under certain circumstances, juvenile convictions can increase the sentence in federal court as they increase the criminal history category of the defendant. Sealing the records have no effect in federal court, and it is unnecessary in state court as they are automatically limited in state court.
