the police has my property from 3 years ago. i just got out of prison and would like to get it back. i called the station and they say i have to file a court order to get it. what do i do now?

You need to file a motion for return of property in the court where you were convicted. Call your defense attorney and ask if she will do this for you.
Bear in mind that there are some types of property you won't be able to claim. For example, as a felon, you will no longer be able to possess guns. You also can't possess illegal drugs, etc. If you try to recover such items you may find yourself facing new charges.
