Sending cash in the mail

Is it legal to send cash through the mail? If so, how much is legal?

I agree. I know of no legal prohibition on sending any amount of cash through the mail. As a practical matter, however, it may not be the wisest of moves. If it is lost, stolen or damaged, there is no way to prove how much of it was contained in the package/envelope.

Re: Sending cash in the mail

It is legal to send any amount of money in the mail within the U.S., as far as I know. One time I was lucky in Vegas and I sent $2000 to myself by first class mail, just stuck it in an envelope. It got there, but waiting for it was the longest 2 days of my life. For peace of mind, you can send it registered mail and the sealed mail piece (you must seal it securely in a manila envelope with brown gluey wrapping tape) is kept under lock and key and signed for by postal employees at every step of the way -- you can even declare the amount and get insurance on it. Of course, you could also buy a postal or Western Union money order or send the money Western Union. Dealing in cash in the US these days is hazardous as there are always cops who will claim there was drug residue on your money or some such.
