How to separate court cases.

A friend is being represented in a case about a stolen car by a District Attorney. The two people are being tried as one case. How does he go about spliting the cases so that he can be tried separately?

Your facts are confusing.

However, your question is rather simple, and the answer is - "There is a noticed motion to bifurcate" the two defendants (separate them) and have them tried individually.

This matter must be set before the trial date. You can't wait until the day of trial and try to set and hear the motion.
