Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

sex offender registration/megan's website

In 1978 I was convicted of L&L, did

time and am long since off any

probation. In 1996 I had to start

registering because of the Megan's

Law that went into effect, but have

never had my picture or info subject

to disclosure. UNTIL, this week, I

popped up on there. The local sheriffs

dept. told me they were not

responsible, and that I needed to

contact the Dept. of Justice. I want

to know if there is some new law in

effect I was not informed of, and if

this is a mistake how to get my face

removed - though living in a small

town, the damage has already been

done. thank you.

Re: sex offender registration/megan's website

It is not easy but it can be done, especially if the conviction is very old, like yours. It is worth investigating. For example, I was once able to remove someone from the website because upon closer investigation it turned out there was a mistake made as to the exact code section under which the person was convicted. Feel free to contact me.
