how long of a sentence do sex offenders usually serve?

It depends upon what sex offense(s) they committed and under what circumstances. Not all sex offenses are equally serious, so not all have comparable punishments. Further, many offenders commit multiple offenses and therefore receive longer sentences. Those who have criminal histories will often get longer sentences than those without, even if their crimes are comparable in other respects.
