You should retain an attorney to represent you as soon as possible. If you have not retained an attorney before the court date, appear in court plead not guilty and ask for a new court date to identify counsel. If you cannot afford to hire an attorney then request that the court appoint an attorney to represent you. The statute of limitations for most property felonies is three years. However, the delay should be investigated.
