Shoplifting
Can a store request restitution for attempting to steal merchandise? My daughter was caught in the store by security. No merchandise was was actually stolen or damaged but never left the store.

Yes, they can. The statute that allows them to do it is Penal Code 490.5. That doesn't mean you should automatically pay it. With an attorney, you can see if the store is willing to accept a civil compromise instead. This is where you pay the store some predetermined amount of money to satisfy them for the alleged crime and then you go to court and ask the judge to stay any prosecution as a result.
