Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

I was shopping at a department store when...

I was shopping at a department store after making my purchase and leaving the store, while heading to my car a person stopped me saying I need to come back into the store I asked why SHOWED THEM MY EMPTY PURSE AND RECIEPT! Then another person shows up stating the same thing and saying they have my license plate #. I said so I didnt do anything wrong , no Im not going back in , why are you harrasing me? Then I went to my car. while on my way to my car they said your giong to jail now!I yelled back no IM not I havent done anything wrong got in car and drove away. Since then the police came to the door of my mothers looking for me, why? I didnt take anything and couldnt go back into the store because I had pot on me and didnt want a drug charge. I feel that they hadf no right doing this, I did not steal and felt harrassed they never i.d. themselves and didnt have name badges either. Now IM sitting scared what do I do? Please help

Stores have limited authority to detain and/or arrest suspected shoplifters. Obviously, they thought you stole for some reason.

If you're contacted by the police, tell them you'd rather not give a statement until you talk to a lawyer.

Then do it. Talk to a lawyer. They store obviously thinks they have something on you in order to get the police to actually go looking for you.
