Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
my son was found guilty of "vehicle tampering" he is a minor. what should we expect at his sentencing, we live in california.
1 Answer from Attorneys
Technically, there is no such thing as "guilty" or sentencing in juvenile court. The judge apparently found your son committed the offense and will decide what happens at a disposition hearing.
Juvenile court uses different terminology than adult court because the objective is different; the goal is rehabilitation, not punishment. Your son will be required to make restitution for any damage he caused.
If your son committed a misdemeanor, Vehicle Code 10852, he will most likely get some sort of probation. However, the outcome depends on many factors, such as your son's age, past criminal record, behavior at school and in court, and whether he has showed remorse.
You should be asking your son's lawyer, who knows all the facts and can give a more informed answer than a stranger on the Internet who knows nothing about the case.
