what does sp4 mean, I know that SP means State Prison but what does SP4 mean for the inmate?

I believe that you are looking at the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department Inmate Information site online. I believe it means he has a four (4) year sentence.

"SP4" doesn't mean 4 years. It means that the inmate is being processed for transportation to an institution of the California Department of Corrections. This can take an indeterminate amount of time from one day to a couple of weeks.
