Can this stalker be stopped?

Someone I know has been stalked all over California by

a violent ex-boyfriend for five years. He has gone to

jail for assault against her, and she has called the

police on him more than a dozen times (he fled or was

quickly released). He is currently on probation and is

not supposed to contact her. She has fled the state

and he has made 50 calls (that's just in one day) to

her parents to find her. Every day she fears for her

life, but doesn't know how to stop him. The police

have not taken this seriously. What can be done?

Our legal system works only when the parties follow the law. Short of his being locked in prision or his death there is nothing that can stop him.

Your friend should get a domestic violence restraining order. This order should include her parents as well as her self. They are very possibly at risk of harm from this person.

Once she obtains the restraining order, which should prohibit contact in any manner, verbal or written, she or her parents can call the police and report him. If they do this every time he contacts them, the police will soon become tired of the telephone calls and take some action. Also see if the case can be assigned to a specific officer. Then follow up with the DA's office with a written report of every incident. Keep a log of these reports. If they do not get action then contact the local news media or their state legislative representative.

This is probably the best they can do to protect the woman and her family.
