Without knowing the facts, it is impossible to answer your question.

For example, if the officer did not have sufficient reason to stop you in the first place, all of the evidence -- including his identification of you as the driver -- might be inadmissible in court.

It might also be possible to get the charge reduced to being an unlicensed driver (as opposed to having a license which was suspended), which can be reduced to an infraction.

Since you are charged with a misdemeanor, you are entitled to a court appointed attorney if you can't afford to hire one on your own. Ask the judge to appoint the public defender.

Please understand that this is a general discussion of legal principles by a California lawyer and does not create an attorney/client relationship. It's impossible to give detailed, accurate advice based on a few sentences on a website (and you shouldn't provide too much specific information about your legal matter on a public forum like Avvo, anyway). You should always seek advice from an attorney licensed in your jurisdiction who can give you an informed opinion after reviewing all of the relevant information.
