Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Statue of Limitations for a minor commiting petty theft.

Between the years 98 and 99 (I was 13/14) I was charged with petty theft, fighting in school and diching school twice. My mom was a looser and did not take me to juv. court and I got FTA's. I have sence moved far from CA to NC and I'm trying to get my license. However, DMV has put a hold on it intill I pay about $1K in fees to the San Bernardino County Juv. Court in CA. It is now 2006 is there a statue of limitations? Please let me know. Thanks,--name removed--

Statutes of limitations only apply to the filing of charges. They do not apply to judgments or warrants. You will need to either pay the DMV what it wants (which may enable you to get a license but which will do nothing to alter your criminal record) or deal with this in the San Bernardino court.

It appears that either a warrant was issued or you were sentenced and a fine was imposed. Contact the juvenile probation department for that county. Explain the problem and ask how you can either get the fine reduced or set up a payment plan and release your driver's license so that you can get a job and pay off the remaining fine and further your education.
