Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

stolen property

my former employer accused me of theft of a laptop.

they had the police question me at my present place of employement and attempted to make me say incriminating statements

I refused and stated that i never took anything from them and that i never signed any documentation for checking out equipment

Police stated that they did have the document and when i asked to see this document that i signed they left.

they cannot issue a search warrant for lack of propable cause

is this a strong case for grand theft

this case has gone thru 5 pre-trials and the da does not want to go to trial

my present legal rep tells my that my accusers have a ''relationship with the da'' hence the case is not going to be dismissed

Re: stolen property

Difficult to advise on the strength of the case against based upon what you provided. I would need to know more to evaluate your situation. For example, has the computer been found in your possession? Are there any witnesses collaborating the accusers' story? Is it simply a he-said-she-said kind of case with no other evidence at all? In other words, a comprehensive and honest advice would have to be based on review of all evidence against you.

Feel free to contact me for a free consultation and very best to you.

Re: stolen property

The fact that your case has gone through 5 pre trial hearings could mean anything including your attorneys motion to continue the hearing and does not necessarily refelct on the strength or lack of, the DA's case. Since you are already represented by counsel I can't see your file thus I can not comment
