The best way is what our parents taught us... don't lie. The next best is admit to the prosecutor your lie, and volunteer to go to jail for filing a false report.

If the reported charges were true., you obviously wanted the law to take its course. Once that is set in motion you dont have much choice

The decision is not yours to make. Whether to charge someone is up to the prosecutor.

If you are the victim, your report was true, and you don't want the attacker charged, you can ask the prosecutor not to charge him. The prosecutor will take your wishes into account, but they might not be a major factor in his decision.

If you are not the victim and your report was true, then your wishes don't matter much at all.

If your report was false, then you should consult with a lawyer before you do anything else. Admitting that you made a false report could get you prosecuted. It's the right thing to do, but you should have a lawyer on your side so that you don't make things any worse for yourself than necessary.
