Re: How is it like studying criminal law
-Studying- criminal law is two (or more) semester long courses, in the first, you have to memorize a large number of rules relating to the elements of various crimes, especially the different types of homicides, the various defenses to crimes, and the philosophy behind criminal law. The second semester is called "criminal procedure" and involves lots of memorization of the rules of search and seizure under the Fourth Amendment.
-Practicing- criminal law can be exciting. Your actions help determine whether your client is found guilty and how much jail time, if any, he/she will receive. You will get to meet interesting, sometimes creepy, people, and see the insides of jailhouses, prisons, and state hospitals (that most other people don't get to see). If you are lucky, you will gain experience and eventually attract clients who have enough money to pay your fee.
