Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

suspicious call from a law office

Dear Attorney:

I got a voice message from a law office yesterday that said I need to contact them to avoid any future judgement. They alo gave me a case number, but didnot specifically say what it is about.

However, the person they are looking for is not me. Everything matches (last, address) except the first name.

Should I respond to this suspicious call or not, since no letter from that law office is ever received.

Please advice. Thanks

Re: suspicious call from a law office

This would appear to be an attempt to collect a debt. You should contact the law office and get the address and then send a letter demanding that they produce the doucments that support the alleged debt. Then determine whether you owe the debt and the amount claimed to be due and owing. Once that information has been obtained you can make a decision as to the next step to take.
