Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Telephone scam

Even though without lending license, a scam posing as a national lender tries to sell ''in house loan applicant'' leads to insurance agents at $13 a lead. Orders have to be paid in advance

and auto monthly charge to checking account thereafter. I was taken for $559 but I cancelled with a certified letter 3 days after signing

an agreement with very fine print terms. Can I report to police or is this a small claim ?

Re: Telephone scam

The two options are not mutually exclusive. The police get involved in criminal cases, but small claims court is for civil cases. A given act can be both a crime and a basis for a civil suit.

Crimes can be reported to the police regardless of the dollar amounts involved. If you also want to file a civil lawsuit, you would probably want to do so in small claims court.
