If you're the victim on the case, call the DA's office or their victim/witness liaison. You can check the status of the case that way.

It sounds like he was originally charged with a felony (or felonies) and is now facing either much lesser felonies or even a misdemeanor.

You were probably subpoenaed for a preliminary hearing and that was canceled, either because there is no new date for prelim (either because he waived time and they didn't set a new date or it's been reduced to a misdemeanor, in which case he doesn't get a preliminary hearing).

Call the DA's office.

Re: Who tells me what could be happening?

Lots of things COULD have happened. If you want me to speculate, I'll guess he hired a new lawyer at the last minute; the lawyer told the judge he needed more time to prepare, because he knew nothing about the case yet, asked the judge to reconsider bail and got it lowered. Your ex sounds like a master manipulator and controller, so this scenario ought not to surprise you.

I suggest keeping close contact with the prosecutor assigned this case. You might be able to clue him/her in on a lot of his habits and tactics. You might also anticipate a LOT of excuses for continuances, for the purposes of wearing you down on court appearances and inconvenience so you get disgusted and stop cooperating with the D.A..

That is why I suggest close contact with the D.A. He/she should be made well aware of the games and vigorously oppose the conga line of excuses to delay the case, if that happens.
