Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

theft accusation

I have been suspended pending investigation for three seperate suspicious refunds that were given to an unknown visa gift card. Two under my log in and 1 under another person's log in that had already clocked out by the time the transaction accurred. I have been interviewed by by company's HR person and my mgr was also present. the total was just over 500.00. I am pretty sure I am the main suspect as the questions they were asking were pointing towards that. I told them I know nothing. My question is what type of charges could be filed against me, what type of sentence could I get, what do they need to convict me? Simply that my name was on the gift cards or something more specific to me doint this? I am thinking of going to a residential treatment facility for my depression that is not local do you think I should tell my job I want to do that and offer to just pay this amount back although I did not do it I know things point towards me and rather then fight this in court its in my health's best interest to just pay this amount in case they do feel I did this that way I can go to treatment with this cleared up? I dont have a lot of money for a lawyer which is tough but I cant go to jail I would rather die

Re: theft accusation

Stop feeling sorry for yourself and wise up. Why did you agree to be interviewed without a lawyer present, or at all? You had/have nothing to gain by agreeing to be interviewed. Do not talk to the police or any investigator anymore and by that I mean not one word. Tell them instead you want to call your lawyer. Do not sign anything. Do not go to a police station. Do not admit guilt. Do not tell your job you are feeling depressed. Take a walk around the block and get some exercise. Go to YouTube and search for "Don't Talk To Cops."
