What are the penalties for theft charges in Southern California if the total value is around 50.00, I was with a minor does that hurt my case?

Penal code section 490.1 provides that if the amount taken is $50 or less the matter may be charged as either a misdemeanor or an infraction. The affect of the minor being present depends on the role, if any that the minor played in the matter.

Thanks for your posting. "Theft charges" can range from burglary to shoplifting or other charges. As misdemeanors, the maximum is by law 1 year in jail and a fine of $1,000 ( which would be approx. $3,000 with assessments).
